TWO students who train at Page Family Tae Kwon Do have passed their black belts.

This takes between three to four years of training and students are tested on all of the patterns when invited to grade.

"To be invited to grade students have to attend two, three hour pre-grading sessions to see if they have what it takes," said instructor Brennen Page.

"At these session they are tested on all of the patterns (series of blocks and movements set against an imaginary opponent) as well as self defence routines from a variety of grabs, knife defence techniques, sparring (fighting) board breaking and fitness.

"If successful, they are then invited to stand in front of the independent martial arts grading panel consisting of 8th degree Master Willie Lim and IMA founder 6th degree Master Kevin Summers and other senior ranking instructors"

Page was promoted to 5th dan, an achievement that has taken him 24 years to complete.

Having started training at Hereford's first Tae Kwon Do club under instructor Jon Stockwell, he trained through to black belt alongside his family, parents Brian and Tina Page and sister Syanna Farr, one of the first families in the country to achieve this feat together.

The 31-year-old became an instuctor five years ago and started training when he was seven.

Classes at Hereford Cathedral Sports Hall are at 6pm every Monday and Wednesday.
