LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson says his team need to win their next two games following a humbling home defeat against Otley.

The Kingsland side are now five points from safety in National League 2 North going into the games against Broadstreet and Stockport.

“If we going to get our season back going again, then those two fixtures are probably the ones we need to win,” said Davidson.

Luctonians’ task against Otley was made difficult from the start when their Yorkshire opponents scored a try in the first minute from Matt Heaton.

Stephen Depledge failed to convert, but Otley’s pack were on top.

Luctonians levelled the game when Jordan Street ran through the middle to score under the posts for the second home game in succession. Geraint Langdon added the extras to put Luctonians 7-5 ahead.

But Otley stormed back after 23 minutes when James White ran in following an interception which Depledge converted.

The visitors went further ahead 10 minutes later when Sam Cook who finished off a move.

Luctonians reduced the deficit before half-time when Joe Doyle put in Will Burton to score, with Langdon again converting.

Otley grabbed another try four minutes after the break through Jack Mackie, with Depledge converting. Winger Adam Knight then crashed over for Lucs, with Langdon kicking over the extras, but they could not get any more scores.

Otley then ran away with the game in the last 10 minutes, with Harry Hudson and Freddie Watson both going over; Depledge converting both tries.

“We scored three good tries, but the individual error count was up in the 20s, which is too high," said Davidson.
