LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson hopes the home support can will his side on to victory like never before this weekend following a disappointing defeat against relegation rivals Hull in National 2 North.

Mortimer Park will welcome Oatley this Saturday and Lucs cannot afford to slip up again after coming unstuck at Hull.

The Yorkshire side rattled in 27 unanswered points to ensure that they are now just a point behind Luctonians in the league table.

And with Birmingham and Solihull gaining an away win at Sedgley Park, Lucs are now four points from safety.

"You are talking about a young side," said Davidson.

"I think the home support and atmosphere helps the whole squad.

"Three teams go down so we are in desperate need of climbing that extra place."

Hull stormed into a lead after just five minutes when Greg Lound strolled in after great work from his forwards before slotting over the conversion.

The home side continued their dominance and extended their lead through a Lound penalty.

Hull then stepped another gear after the break and Luctonians struggled to get a foothold in the game.

Substitute centre Aidan Holland rounded off a sustained attack, but the conversion was missed.

Further tries followed through winger Stephen Hihetah and Holland, with the latter racing 50 yards from his own half.

The try was converted by Lound to seal Luctonians' fate.

Davidson said it was disappointing that his side never got going and failed to even get any points.

"I don't think we even got off the bus at Hull, which is disappointing," said Davidson.

"It was a very tepid game between the second and third from bottom teams and we missed a few tackles.

"We did wag our tails a couple of times but didn't get any reward and they scored 17 points in the last 11 minutes.

"That got them the five points, which was disappointing because it was an 'eight point game'."

Davidson pointed to a try-scoring chance for Jimmy Norris that was missed.

"Jon Hughes fed our hooker Guy Kirby, who passed it slightly behind Jimmy Norris, who got pushed out into touch right on the touchline," said Davidson.

"I could not see how he didn't score, which would have made it 15-7 and made it an interesting game."

After facing Oatley, Luctonians travel to Broadstreet before hosting bottom club Stockport at Mortimer Park on February 7.
