PRESTEIGNE secured their first win in South Wales Premier 2 with a 4-2 win over Rhondda.

The home side responded well to last week's 3-0 defeat by Haverfordwest and took control of the game from the opening whistle.

Jess Goodwin fired them ahead early on before Rita Tomkins doubled their lead soon after.

Continuing to dominate, Goodwin score her second to fire Presteigne into a 3-0 lead before the visitors pulled one back just before half-time.

But the goal of the game came after the break when good one-touch hockey saw Tomkins and Goodwin link up well for Charlie Morris to make it 4-1.

The home side's defence later had to make a number of vital tackles although they couldn't prevent Rhondda adding a late consolation.

Player of the match went to Sian Bull.

The same day followed up their win with a second victory inside 24 hours when they hammered Cwmtawe 8-0 in the first round of the Welsh Shield.

In a repeat of the previous day, Presteigne dominated play from the opening whistle with the visitors only getting into the Presteigne circle once.

Goodwin was again on the mark, this time scoring a hat-trick, while Tomkins and Deb Evans added two each. Morris was again on target, with her all-round play securing her the player of the match award.

Presteigne travel to Cardiff this Saturday in The South Wales League.
