Luctonians 20 pts Hull 23

MISSED kicks proved costly as Luctonians outscored National Two North rivals Hull by four tries to three but were still beaten by three points.

"It was the first time we have had a cross wind this season but Geraint Langdon didn't look like kicking any of the conversions," admitted Luctonians director of rugby Alex Davidson.

"If he had achieved the usual 60% kicking ratio we would have won the game."

Luctonians also had to overcome the disruption of losing Will Burton with work commitments on the evening before the game and then Alex Smith with a cut head early in the match.

If that was not bad enough, Anthony Marfell fractured an eye-socket going over for the first try and faces a long spell on the sidelines.

Marfell's score had given the north Herefordshire club the lead after James Cameron's early penalty for Hull.

Jessie Bright then scored a converted try for the visitors before John Kelly responded for Luctonians.

Another Cameron penalty saw Hull lead at half-time and the Yorkshiremen pulled away to lead by 13 points thanks to tries from Bright and Tomasi Tanumi.

Luctonians battled back with further scores from Mike Jones and Daniel Smith but the missed conversions proved to be decisive as they were beaten at home for the first time this season.

The Mortimer Park men, who at least had the consolation of picking up two bonus points, now travel to Otley on Saturday.
