Walsall 27 pts Hereford 53

HEREFORD extended their winning start to the Midlands One West season to three matches with an eight-try demolition of Walsall.

Their comprehensive success, after a below-par display in the win over Stratford the previous week, delighted coach Bob Stewart.

"I was particularly pleased with the work rate and the attitude of the players," he said.

"They maintained their unbeaten record with an entertaining display of attacking football."

An early first try by James Watters, converted by Dean Powell, set the tone for the day, although Walsall soon reduced arrears with an unconverted score.

Watters went over for a second try, again converted by Powell, before Gus Lowther went over for his first league try.

A Walsall penalty interrupted the flow of Hereford scoring briefly before Matt Pritchard and Powell set up Ben Osborne for the bonus-point try.

Powell's successful conversion left the half-time score at 26-8.

Sean Day's run allowed Leon Parsons to start the second period with a try before Tom Ewins added two more in four minutes.

Connor Sullivan successfully converted one to extend the lead to 35 points.

With Day and Parsons off the field with yellow cards, Walsall took full advantage to run in three tries, one of which was converted.

But, in the midst of the home try spree, Powell kicked a penalty and then had the final word, landing the conversion after Osborne went over for the final try.

Tom Slater was named man of the match while Matt Hill, on his debut, showed promise for the future.

Hereford will be looking to extend their winning run to four games when they entertain Whitchurch at Wyeside on Saturday.
