HEREFORD goalball player Laura Perry admits taking part in this year’s National Paralympic Day has given her added motivation to make it to Rio 2016.

Perry, 26, travelled to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to take part in a Great Britain versus Belgium match as part of the 2014 National Paralympic Day celebrations.

The Royal National College for the Blind goalball player was not part of the Great Britain team which played at London 2012, but after hearing plenty of stories from fellow teammates Perry was relishing the chance to star at the Copper Box Arena.

Great Britain started the match slowly and found themselves 5-2 down at half-time but a sterling second-half comeback ultimately saw the home side triumph 7-5.

“The girls who played at London 2012 told us how incredible it was to play here and for us to have just a tiny taste of that is amazing,” she said.

“We’re playing Belgium in the European Championships soon as well, so it was nice to get a bit of a rivalry going beforehand and show them what we can do.”

National Paralympic Day aims to promote Paralympic sport across the UK, giving people the opportunity to relive the wonder of 2012 and to support Paralympic sports and athletes. #NPD2014 is supported by the Spirit of 2012 Trust. Visit Paralympics.org.uk/npd2014
