HEREFORD Wheelers' first hill climb event of the season saw NFTO rider Sam Harrison break the course record on the Haugh Wood hill.

Harrison was among 47 entrants including the Tour of Britain team of Hereford-based club NFTO.

On a perfect night for racing, NFTO filled the first eight positions with Harrison taking first place in 4min 42sec, obliterating the old record of 5:13.

In second place was Jon Mould in 4:56 and in third was Joshua Hunt in 5:01.

All of the first eight riders broke the old record.

The first non NFTO rider was 17-year-old Wheeler Ceri Middleton in ninth place with an excellent time of 5:28.

He was closely followed by another 17-year-old in 12th place, with Gil Richards of Ludlow CC finishing in 5:35.

The woman’s race was won by Christie Jones of NFTO in 6:49 followed by Wheeler Clare Fenton in 7:31. In third place was Liz Davis Ward of Hereford Tri Club in 8:50.

The next Wheelers event is the evening when the Pencombe hill climb on September 11.
