GREAT Britain marksman James Bevis has secured his place at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

The Herefordshire lad has achieved a quota-place after impressing for his country at the IPC Shooting World Championships in Suhl, Germany.

Bevis, who now lives in Devon, bagged a bronze medal two years ago at Woolwich Barracks in the London 2012 Paralympics.

Bevis is also planning to link-up again with his former coach Ben Harwood, from ThePoint4 in Hereford.

In Suhl, Bevis picked up a silver medal after finishing second, after shooting 615.2, in the R9 50m Rifle Prone Mixed SH2.

“I am ranked no.1 in the world for 50m outdoor event andm last year, I only started shooting it and my first competition was the Europeans Championships in October,” said Bevis.

Bevis then joined forces with Richard Davies and Tim Jeffrey to win a team bronze.

He finished sixth in the R5 10m Air Rifle Prone Mixed SH2

Bevis said: “I had moved house in the week leading up to the championships and I hadn’t rested very much, so I was quite tired and had lost a bit of self-belief.

“Being in the top-six in the prone air-rifle indoor 10 metres, means I have got a quota place for the Paralympics in Rio, so I am delighted.”

The event was the largest-ever World Championships for the sport and saw Great Britain’s best performance at the event.

Bevis said: “I am now hoping to get a new bike from Climb on Bikes and I am looking to get back with Ben Harwood at ThePoint4 to become my coach again.

“I have spoken to Ben and he has really missed coaching me and we are hoping to sort something out.

“If I can put in 100 miles a week on the road bike, I will see Ben once a month and that would be ideal.

“It will also focus me to come up to Herefordshire regularly to see my family and friends.”

Bevis has been enjoying a short break from the sport but will start shooting again on Monday. He will be competing in a Devon county event at the end of this month.
