BARTESTREE and Lugwardine were able to break out the champagne after securing promotion from Division Four of the Worcestershire County League at the second attempt.

The villagers hammered Bromsgrove 3rd by eight wickets to make certain of at least second place and require just four points from their final two matches to be crowned champions.

An excellent all-round performance by Luke Sparrow led Bartestree to their 11th victory in 20 matches.

The left-arm spinner took 4-27, receiving good support from the Ashcroft brothers Marcus (2-15) and Matt (2-47) as Bromsgrove were dismissed for 141.

Sparrow (61) then produced his best innings of season to mastermind the run-chase with skipper Ben Simpkin (19 not out) and Nick Frith (27 not out) rounding things off.

There were more celebrations at Canon Frome, where the villagers wrapped up the Division six championship with a six-wicket win over Droitwich 3rd.

James Fortnam (5-38) led the way as Droitwich were restricted to 205 and then back up Nicko Evans (62) and Adam Hope (49 not out) with 36 as Frome romped to victory.

Meanwhile, Bromyard have slipped back into the bottom two in Division One after a 64-run defeat by Redditch.

Ahmed Jamal (4-45) and Josh Tongue (4-61) bowled well as Redditch were dismissed for 225.

But none of the Bromyard batsman were able to play a major innings, although Tom Baylis made 38, as the Flagonners Green club were dismissed for 161.

Bromyard's hopes of beating the drop will not be improved by the fact that they have to face the top two teams in the Division, Pershore and then Worcester, in their final two matches.

The Gooch brothers battled in vain for Colwall who were beaten by 84 runs by Pedmore.

Michael took 5-30 as Pedmore were bowled out for 257 and then contributed an unbeaten 23 in a last-wicket stand with brother Jon (40) but the Malvern Hills club still fell well short.

Burghill & Tillington have secured the Division Two championship after a crushing 242-run win over Rushwick.

Stefan Hook (60), skipper Owen Morgan (58) and Alex Hedges (55) were all in good form with the bat as Burghill piled up an impressive 293-7 from their 50 overs.

Teenager Barney Morgan then led the way with the ball, returning 5-16 as Rushwick were shot out for just 51.

Wormelow's Australian all-rounder Jamie Barnfield was in fine form with the bat as he eased to an unbeaten 131, the highest of his seven centuries during two seasons with the villagers.

But his efforts proved in vain as Worcester Dominies and Guild overhauled Wormelow's total of 257-6 with four wickets in hand.

Ross skipper Seb Warwick top-scored with 57 as his side hammered Alveley by 107 runs.
