Wood's frustrating afternoon

First published in Sport by

HEREFORD racer Lea Wood had to endure his most frustrating afternoon of the British Touring Car Championship season after the long trip to Knockhill in Scotland.

Two collisions in the first race saw Wood limp across the line in 23rd place.

There was plenty of hard work for the back-up crew to get the Toyota Avensis on the track for the second race.

But, three laps in, the suspension failed and Wood was forced to retire.

Starting from 27th on the grid in the final race, Wood did manage to work his way up to finish in 24th place.

"It was one of those weekends," said Wood, who celebrated his 30th birthday earlier in the month.

"Qualifying went OK but then it was a downward spiral from there.

“It’s frustrating, of course, but that’s motor sport and we knew it would happen at some stage of the season.

“There have only been two races that we haven’t finished this season, so that is very positive.

“We’ve got three meetings left. I like Rockingham and Silverstone and I love Brands Hatch so I want to finish the season in style.”
