AGE shows no signs of dimming the skills of Hereford's Paralympic hero Sascha Kindred after the 36-year-old bagged three gold medals at the IPC European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven.

Kindred, at his sixth European Championships, also bagged a silver and a bronze as he medalled in all of the individual events he entered, as well as picking up another bronze in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

And he set two new personal bests as well as breaking the European record in his key event, the 200m individual medley.

"I had no been expecting to do so well," he admitted.

"I had a few injury problems leading up to the Championships and I wasn't feeling in great form.

"But perhaps the injury helped me to rest.

After winning gold in his opening event, the 50m S6 butterfly, Kindred followed up with silver in the 50m S6 freestyle, less then three-quarters of a second behind the winner, Sebastian Iwanow from Germany.

He set a new European best on his way to gold in the 200m SM6 individual medley before racing to gold again in a new personal best in the S7 freestyle.

A bronze in the 100m SB7 breaststroke completed his haul.

"Everyone was surprised that I did so well but I still love swimming and I love my sport," said Kindred.

"It's all about keeping ahead of my rivals and doing things that my rivals don't do.

"As a young 36, I have reduced my training and there is now more of a focus on quality than quantity."

He will now allow himself a week off before getting back into the pool.

"The World Championships are early next year, in July," he said. "So the trials are in March and I need to be in shape for those.

"The championships are in Glasgow in the same pool as the Commonwealth Games events so we'll be looking to fill the venue and get the home crowd behind us.

"My back is causing me some problems and I have to keep an eye on that and I'm seeing a specialist at the end of the month.

"But the Paralympics in Rio are always at the back of my mind - I shall aim to go to the World Championships and then keep on until Rio.
