HEREFORDSHIRE Badminton Academy have shown that the future of the sport in the county is in safe hands after a triumph in the Four Counties Challenge in Gloucester.

Players from the academy made the short trip to Gloucester to take part in the challenge in Gloucester against Gloucestershire, Jersey and Worcestershire at u15 and u18 levels.

"The players put all of their training into practice and represented the county proudly, beating Jersey and Worcestershire to win the u15 event," said the academy's Rachel McGill.

For the first time in the county, The Herefordshire Badminton Academy have introduced mixed doubles into their annual Herefordshire Restricted doubles tournament.

"The day was a great success which showcased the overall improvement of the county's players," said Rachel McGill.

Winners were:

U11 level doubles Chad Warren, Max Williams and Ella Williams, Tara Hastings

U11 mixed doubles was Chad Warren and Tara Hastings

U13 level doubles Chad Warren, Brandon Adams and Lucy Parker, Hattie Hastings.

U13 mixed doubles was Brandon Adams and Hattie Hastings.

U15 level doubles was Brandon Adams, Will McGill and Mhairi McGill, Amy Hastings.

U15 mixed was Brandon Adams and Mhairi McGill.

U17 level doubles Will McGil, Hugo Topping and Mhairi McGill, Amy Hastings.

U17 mixed was Robert Holding and Mhairi McGill.

U21 mixed was Robert Holding and Jess Hastings.

"I am really excited for the future of the Herefordshire Badminton Academy and for individual players who have gained success nationally representing the county," said head coach Les Butts .
