A FOURTEEN-year-old cricketer looks destined for big things after smashing a century for Bartestree and Lugwardine 2nd last Saturday.

Wilf Munn opened the batting and cracked 20 fours in his 124 runs off 107 balls.

His innings helped Bartestree team to a resounding 261-run win against Harvington 2nd in 2nd XI Worcestershire League Division Three.

The Bishop of Hereford Bluecoat School pupil has been part of the set-up at Bartestree since he was eight and also plays for Herefordshire under-14s.

"It was his first century for the team and he was very pleased with it," said Wilf's dad Andy Munn.

"His previous best in adult cricket was 41.

"I missed the game because I was working, but I saw him get 64 in a county game against Leicestershire at Goodrich on Sunday.

"However, we had a little chat prior to the game and I told him not to play any silly shots, which he didn't.

"He is a very sporty lad and is quite keen to play as many sports as he can.

"The great thing at Bartestree is that they give youngsters a chance to play.

"He enjoys playing with the adults and mixing with them."

Bartestree have a tradition in that anyone who scores a century has to but the other players two jugs of beer.

"His mum bought them, but hopefully in a few years Wilf will be able to have a drink as well."

Club secretary Nigel Shore said that Wilf is destined for great things.

"He has made some solid scores and is extremely difficult to dismiss due to a very correct technique," said Shore.

Bartestree finished on 362, with Alun Evans (48) and Nick Freeman (35) helping the team out.

Ryan Trattell and Andy Kalwaites then grabbed three wickets apiece as Harvington were skittled out for just 101.
