Plymouth Argyle cancel friendly against Hereford United

Hereford Times: Plymouth have cancelled a friendly against Hereford United. Plymouth have cancelled a friendly against Hereford United.

PLYMOUTH Argyle have confirmed that they will not be facing Hereford United in a pre-season friendly.

The Pilgrims were due to face the Bulls on Saturday, August 2.

But, the League Two club have now cancelled the game because they felt that United would not provide a suitably high standard of opposition.

Plymouth will instead face Conference South outfit Weston-super-Mare.

"The Bulls were a Skrill Conference side at the time the Edgar Street match was arranged but have since been demoted to the Calor League," said a statement on the official Plymouth Argyle website.

"Consequently, it was felt that they would not be able to provide a suitably high standard of opposition so close to the start of the Pilgrims’ league season."

The Hereford Times revealed earlier today that a scheduled charity match in aid of Help for Heroes on Sunday and a friendly against Cardiff City the following Saturday have both been postponed due to safety concerns.

Marc Willimont, head of development management and environmental health at Herefordshire Council, said that no games can be played at Edgar Street until further notice until the council receives the relevant safety certification.

Andy Lonsdale, an advisor at United, said that he was 'dismayed' by the news.

Hereford were also due to face Grays on Saturday, July 19, but that too has been cancelled due to the current unrest at the Edgar Street club.

The Bulls are still scheduled to face Gloucester City on Tuesday, July 22 and Droylsden on Saturday, July 26.

Both of those games are away.
