A £100 prize is on offer when the annual Climb On Bikes CC Spring Road Race takes place on Sunday.

Eighty riders will take to local roads and battle it out over 3.5 laps of an undulating 16-mile circuit with one of the riders from Climb On Bikes Racing team hoping to claim top spot and keep the title local.

Last year's race was won by Luke Churchus riding for the Hereford Gannets CC.

This year the club have secured fantastic sponsorship and prizes including a £500 cash prize fund from local businesses and a selection of cycling goodies donated by the Climb On Bikes shop itself.

"Last year’s race was marred somewhat by accidents caused in part by the state of the local roads," said organiser Nick Preece.

"This year, big thanks must go to Balfour Beatty who have worked closely with the committee to ensure that the potholes are filled and the roads are race ready.

"Without their help the committee would have had no option but to cancel the event for safety reasons."

The race starts at 10am from Sutton St Nicholas village hall, heading towards Hereford, joining the A4103 towards Worcester before turning left onto the A465 Bromyard road.

The course then makes a left turn to join the A417 at Burley Gate roundabout and left once again in Bodenham to take the riders back towards Sutton St Nicholas, finishing just outside Withington.

"The Climb on Bikes CC Committee would like to thank Weatherseal Windows, Watkins and Thomas estate agents, Bishop and Smith Stainless Fabricators, Melcon Ltd, Millennium Glass, Luck Trading, Rees & Co, Homechoice Flooring and Tudors Building Supplies for their generous contributions which have enabled the club to offer prize money for the top 10 placed riders and has also helped to cover this year’s extensive running costs," said Nick Preece.
