Hereford County Bowling Association won on only two rinks when they visited Crickhowell to take on Monmouthshire and were defeated by 136 shots to 98.

The match was played on an extremely heavy green, but the top Herefordshire rink, skipped by Don Pugh, started very well and led 15-3 after nine ends before the hosts fought back to lead 16-15 after 18 ends. Herefordshire then managed to win the remaining three ends for a fine 21-16 success

John Colley skipped the other winning rink, and after being level at 10-10 after 12 ends they won six of the remaining ends for an excellent 20-18 victory.

The rink skipped by Paul Rainthorpe started badly and were down 12-1 after six ends, but they won eight of the next nine ends to lead 18-13 before Monmouthshire won five of the remaining six ends to win 22-20.

Russ Jones's rink were down 10-4 after 10 ends, but they were unable to recover in the remaining ends and lost 21-13, and Ron Perry's rink were always behind in a 29 -13 defeat.

The highest defeat was sustained by the rink skipped by Dave Holloway and after being down 17-3 after 10 ends they could not recover in the remaining ends and were beaten 30-11.
