HEREFORD Wheelers have seen two of their oldest records broken in one weekend

The first record to go was the club’s oldest record, set 25 years ago by Peter Hughes, for the Shrewsbury and Back Time Trial.

Setting off at just after 6am on a perfect morning Paula Moseley of Climb on Bikes RT and second claim Wheeler broke the old record by 6min 30sec with a time of 4hr 15min 43sec.

This augers well for her attempt to retain her National Women’s 100mile title and to win the National 12 hour Championship later this year.

The following day, her husband Luke Moseley broke the second oldest club record, set in 2003, when he won the Wheelers 35 mile Time Trial on the challenging Allensmore – Bredwardine course.

His winning time of 1hr24min 45sec broke the old record by just over two minutes.

In second place was fellow Climb on Bike rider Mark Sims in 1:27:23 and in third place was Si Cox NFTO in 1:30:36.

The only woman rider was Wheeler Katie Price, in 12th place with a time of 1:46:42.

The seventh round of the Wheelers Evening 10 series had a reduced field from previous races due to the weather.

Only 38 riders started but visiting Reading rider Daniel Bigham of AW cycles took first place with a time of 21min46sec from Si Cox (NFTO) who was second in 23:24.

Another visiting rider, Jef Outhwaite of Black Country Tri, was third in 23:25.

The best Wheeler was Bryn North in fifth place with a time of 24:01.

The women’s race was won by Annasley Park of Abergavenny RC in 24;35, followed home by Christie Jones (NFTO) in 25:52 and Wheeler Katie Price in 27:17.

Tonight (Tursday) sees the third 25 mile race on the Stretton Sugwas course starting at 6.30pm.
