KEEPING cash-strapped Hereford United in the Skrill Premier would be the highlight of Pete Beadle’s long footballing career

The former Tottenham Hotspur player says he will be drawing on all his Football League experience to save United from relegation.

Beadle, 41, admits that United’s on-field plight is still in their hands and knows it would mean everything for the fans to finish above the drop zone.

“I have not tried to think too far ahead but to keep Hereford United in this division, would be a fantastic feeling,” said Beadle, who took the reins last month.

“It would be massive – it would be right up there with anything I have achieved as a footballer.

“No-one wants their name mentioned as the manager or the player who took the club down.

“I am a football coach – I can’t speak about the things going on behind the scenes.

“You want to be known as the manager that kept up Hereford United.

“It would mean everything to the fans and the supporters of the football club if we were to stay up.”

United have slipped into the relegation zone – and have three matches left – away to Tamworth tomorrow night and at home to Alfreton on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Bulls could face a relegation showdown with Aldershot on the last day of the season.

“It’s still in our hands,” said Beadle, who is trying his best to keep the players relaxed

“If we get nothing from our next match, it might not be in our hands. If we win our next three games we should be fine.

“We have not won back to back matches all season. We are asking them to do something they have not done all season.

“We have been in the game more and are competing for longer in matches.

“The fans have been brilliant and they seen that the players are trying hard.”

Beadle had a similar managerial experience at Clevedon Town.

“I took over at Clevedon in the Southern League – they had no money and unfortunately they lost the manager.

“They were going through a very tough time and I ended up doing the last eight games for nothing.

“They were already in the bottom three when I came in and it was an uphill battle and I think we had to win four of the eight league matches. We did Ok but, in the end, it was not enough.

“This is a little bit different. We were not in the relegation places when I took over.

“We are playing more consistently for longer periods of the game than when I took over the team.

“The last couple of games we have been getting chances and we need to put some of them away.”

Beadle and his assistant Steve Jenkins coached Hereford United’s under-18 team before stepping up to the first team, following the departure of Martin Foyle and Andy Porter.

Due to failing to fulfil fixtures, United’s under-18 team have been expelled from the youth league and had all results expunged from the table.

Beadle has been thrilled with the impact of youngsters, Jarrod Bowen, Cory Williams and Billy Murphy.

“They have had a baptism of fire and they have come out of it well.

“Over five games, Jarrod Bowen has been exceptional and Billy was OK on Saturday but I know he was disappointed with his passing on Saturday.”
