CHRISTIE Jones from Hereford-based NFTO Racing Club hit top gear to win the women’s section of an action-packed Hereford Duathlon at Whitecross School.

Jones roared home in 1:41:30, more than four minutes ahead of second-placed Marianne Scott, 1:46:09.

Sophie Gilbert was the third female home in 1:49:44 in Sunday’s popular annual event.

Worcester Triathlon Club’s Daniel Geisler was the overall winner, finishing the 4.6-mile run/17 mile bike and 2.2-mile run course in an impressive 1:26:14.

Hereford's Eliot Taylor, a member of Climb On Bikes racing team, Hereford Couriers and Hereford Triathlon Club, was second in in 1:27:18.

Jonathan Pugh, from Rhayader RC, was third in his first duathlon race in 1:28:13.

Hereford Triathlon Club’s Mike Pfeiffer was the first veteran and finished in fifth place overall in 1:30:08.

He was followed by Rob Lewis in 1:30:36 and Herefordshire's Christian Jones from Team Sludge Racing was in third place in 1:31:18.

Hereford Triathlon Club’s Joyce Warburton was the first woman home in the veteran's section in 1:54:21.

Hereford Couriers’ Max Suff led the local athletes in the super-veterans’ category for competitors aged 50 years and above.

Suff finished in 1:38:54 and 17th place overall, followed by Climb on Bikes’ Tim Taylor, also Hereford Couriers, in 1:39:39 and Ned Potter of Climb on Bikes in 1:46:07.

Worcester Triathlon Club’s Rachel Ward won the women's super-veteran race in 1:50:23 followed by Pauline Hughes of SYTri (Shrewsbury) in 1:51:52 and Worcester Triathlon Club’s Rosalind Townsend-Hope in 1:55:45.

In the beginners' race which has a shorter first run of 2.4 miles, Thomas Garbett of Revolutions Racing finished first in 1:17:50 followed by Adam Jones from Brecon Triathlon Club in 1:19:25 and Hereford's Graham Skelhorn in 1:26:06.

Victoria Jones from Taff Ely Triathlon Club was the first woman to finish in 1:35:02 followed by Kerrise James of Birmingham Running and Triathlon Club (BRAT) in 1:35:59 and Amanda Dawson in 1:38:08.
