Macclesfield 59 pts Luctonians 5

LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson praised Macclesfield after the National Two North leaders piled 50 points on his Mortimer Park Side.

"They are probably the best side in the division," he said.

"They are very big and powerful and have a simple game plan."

Davidson was disappointed with his side's start at Macclesfield.

"At Otley, we did well early on but we sat back at Macclesfield and they got three easy scores," he said.

Macclesfield had three tries on the board inside the first 12 minutes.

Elliott Brierley went over after three minutes with Tom Eaton converting and this was followed by a further score for Ashley Platt-Hughes, again converted by Eaton.

The league's top try-scorer Ryan Parkinson went over for his 32nd score of the season on 12 minutes.

"We woke up a bit then and got the try of the game," said Davidson.

Skipper Jimmy Norris got Luctonians on the board but Macclesfield hit back again with Cameron Neild's try, converted by Eaton, taking the half-time score to 26-5.

The visitors stemmed the points flow at the start of the second period and it was not until the 56th minute when Parkinson went over for his second try of the afternoon.

After that, the tries came at regular intervals with Louis Taylor (2), Platt-Hughes and Dean Williams all crossing with Eaton taking his conversion tally to seven.

Luctonians now wind up their home programme with a tough match against another of the promotion chasers Darlington Mowden Park.

"It's a nice chance to go out with a good home win and our final chance of the season to claim a good scalp," said Davidson.
