KATIE LLoyd found the perfect way to celebrate her 16th birthday by striking double gold for Hereford Tae Kwon Do club in the English Championships at the Worcester Arena.

Lloyd took gold in the girls' competition and in the red belt heavyweight cadets section.

But she was not the only Hereford competitor bringing back medals as four of her team-mates were also rewarded for successes.

Leading the way was Ebony Griffin who won three silver medals. Katie Sanders and Mandy Meredith also won silver while there was a bronze for Nadia Sahota.

"With more than 1,400 competitors from all over the country and an increasing standard, it is a real achievement to come away with anything at all," said club instructor and seventh dan Dave Sheppard.

“The girls have shown some real determination and dedication. All the hard work the girls are putting in during their training sessions is showing when they compete.”

The Hereford medallists were: Katie Lloyd, Gold, Girls, red belt heavyweights Cadets; Ebony Griffin, Silver, girl’s green belt sparring, patterns and tag teams; Katie Sanders, Silver, girls tag teams; Mandy Meredith, Silver, ladies, green belt lightweights; Nadia Sahota, Bronze, girl’s red belt tag teams
