WEOBLEY Bowling Club, whose new campaign gets underway on April 12, will be hosting the national Middleton Cup match this season.

The Middleton Cup trials will take place on Saturday, May 10 with the Herefordshire v Devon match scheduled for Saturday, July 5.

Weobley will also be hosting the Herefordshire Ladies game against West Glamorgan on Wednesday, May 7 and the Sussex Ladies Touring side on Wednesday, September 10.

The club have also arranged new fixtures with Brecon and Clifton-upon-Teme, and the men's team, who won the Hereford Times Cup last season, will be playing in the First Division of the Herefordshire Men’s League for the first time.

“We have a very full fixture list for the summer, as well as our own Australian Pairs League and club competitions,” said president Richard Turvey.

“Since we moved to our new premises the club has continued to flourish and anyone who would like to take up bowling would be welcome to join us.

“We have qualified coaches who will be available to introduce newcomers to the sport.

“People associate bowls with the older generation, but I can assure you that it is a game for people of all ages and abilities.”

Meanwhile, Bulmers Bowling Club are holding their open day on April 26 at 2pm at their headquarters at Bredon Drive, which is off Cotswold Drive on Kings Acre Road in Hereford.

"If you are a mum or dad and you or your children are looking for a new sport to play then give it a try," said captain Bryan Robinson.

"We have the equipment for you to use, all you will need is a pair of flat shoes."

The club have a full fixture list starting on Saturday May 3 and there are club nights on Mondays starting on April 28 at 6pm.
