HEREFORD United have agreed to set up a weekly meeting between the board and representatives of the players.

United admit a decision to protect the players from the club’s financial troubles had been made by the board and former manager Martin Foyle.

But, in club statement from United’s board of directors this afternoon, the board now plans to keep the players in the picture.

The full statement from United’s board: “The board welcome the above statement made by the players.

“Following a full and frank discussion with the chairman yesterday everyone at Edgar Street looks forward to a fresh mindset from the boardroom, the pitch and the stands.

“We must look to take the positives from the current situation, and following the two recent meetings with the players, we are pleased to have agreed to have more direct discussions and continue to improve relationships and communication with the players by setting up a weekly meeting between the board and the player representatives.

“Decisions have been made of late by the board and also Martin Foyle, with the intention of protecting the players, however it is apparent that this hasn't had the desired effect and we are happy to make our promise to the players to be as open and honest as possible, and in particular to re-confirm that all financial commitments will be met.

“We look forward to a fresh atmosphere around Edgar Street with Pete Beadle now in charge, and are sure that the current crop of players have what it takes to secure our Conference Premier status. We do hope that the supporters will turn out to help this young side through the final eight games.”
