HEREFORD United’s players have asked fans for their ‘heartfelt support’ and urged them to get behind the team during the relegation run-in.

United’s players have not been paid correctly for more than two months and admit the uncertainty over the club’s finances has led to a lack of focus.

United’s players have met with the board of director and have released an official statement this afternoon.

The statement in full is: “The past couple of months have been particularly testing for the club and us as a group of players.

“We acknowledge that our performances have been below what is needed.

This has culminated in Martin Foyle and Andy Porter losing their jobs. Although they probably have regrets and with hindsight may have done things differently, we all accept that our performances have cost them.

“We were all signed by them so we all owe them that debt of gratitude.

“However, the chairman has made his decisions and we all now stand 100% behind Pete Beadle and Steve Jenkins.

“Following a meeting with the chairman (David Keyte) on Thursday where we expressed that the lack of clarity regarding our wages has no doubt coincided with the run of poor form.

“It's now public knowledge that we haven't been paid correctly for over two months. No doubt anyone, in any walk of life would find that tough.

“Mr Keyte has vowed full disclosure from now onwards be it good or bad. The uncertainty has led to lack of focus.

“We feel as players this will give us a chance to control the only thing we realistically can; our performances.

“We now have eight games in which to give this club and ourselves a chance of a brighter future, so we would like to ask you the supporters to put aside your grievances with any one individual, be it player or chairman and allow the negativity to lift a little and have everyone pulling in the same direction between now and the end of the season.

“No other players will be coming in, so your heartfelt support would be a great help and if you could subdue any negativity it would allow some players low in confidence to rediscover their form.

“This statement has been released with the full backing of every player and we hope in return you the supporters will support us in this difficult time.”
