Rivett retains his passion for Westfields

Now into his fifth season in charge of Westfields Reserves, player/manager Anthony Rivett is still passionate about his role in managing the club especially with added incentive of some pieces of silverware at the end of the season.

“I’m one of these believers of that you want to win everything; I’ve still got that passion there to do that. I’ve come down from the first team and I wanted to put something back into a club that has given me so much. I’ve done it for a few years now and sometimes I do think that maybe it’s time to hand it over to someone else with some fresh ideas but I still enjoy it, you wouldn’t do it otherwise, and come the end of the season if we can pick up some silverware then I think that will be my mind made up for me”.

One key aspect of Rivett’s reign is his ability to bring on some of the youth players into the squad and get them ready for first team football and as he explained it is still something that fills him with pride.

“I’ve taken a number of lads up through the under 18’s and into my team and they’ve really proven themselves at our level to be able to step up and fight for a first team place. Tom Bendall for example, who was outstanding today, is one who has just recently been called up to travel with the firsts; fortunately he was available for me today. There’s a couple on the fringe, there’s also a couple who should be there and aren’t and I’m just fortunate to keep the ones I’ve got. As I say they came with me through the under 18’s and turned into fine players, the future certainly is bright for Westfields football club that’s for sure”.
