Luctonians 35 pts Sheffield Tigers 28

FOUR tries from Drew Cheshire and two more from Romanian back-row forward Costica Dima saw Luctonians home against the relegation-threatened Tigers.

In a ding-dong National Two North battle, Luctonians led early before Sheffield fought back for a one-point half-time advantage.

The Mortimer Park club then pulled away again before Sheffield's late rally brought them within seven points.

"The blue sky made us drop into sevens mode," said director of rugby Alex Davidson, who was due to meet a specialist yesterday (Wednesday) to discuss the long-standing shoulder injury which has kept him out since October.

"We lost our structure and there were a lot of mistakes but we had enough class to hold on against a club fighting for their lives.

"We needed those five points as we have four or five tough games to come now."

Dima opened the scoring with a try after just two minutes.

"He has been playing in Italy and looked a bit rusty but he knows how to finish," said Davidson.

Cheshire's first score came on four minutes and he added his second on 33 minutes with Will Burton, who was also successful with a penalty a minute before the break, kicking the conversion.

But Sheffield, with tries from Ben Parker and Dave Bradford, and three penalties and a conversion from Tom Outram, led by a point at the break.

Two tries from Cheshire and one from Dima in the 15 minutes after the break took Luctonians away again before a try from Louis Spencer, converted by Outram, cut arrears again.
