WITH the 2014 competition season about to get underway, Hereford Sparks Gymnastics Club have been drawing inspiration from a remarkable year in 2013 when their competition squad collected an array of medals.

At the West Midlands Novice Competition medals were won by Morgan Jolly, silver in the age 8-9 category and Emily Watts, a silver medal in the 10-12 yrs competition.

Three girls - Katie Pinnell, Abbie Godsall, and Megan Corrick who won a bronze medal, finishing third in the West Midlands - passed their level 4 at the GMAC Centre.

At the Hereford and Worcester County Gymnastics Competition in Lilleshall, in the 9 and10 year olds category, Sydney Green won gold on vault, Ella Rocca silver on floor, Leoni Gallagher bronze on bars and bronze overall.

Maisie Higgins won gold on bars, silver on beam and silver overall, and Liberty Jones won gold on floor, gold on beam, bronze on vault and gold overall to become Hereford & Worcester County Champion.

In the 11+ Level 5 competition, Emily Godsall, gold on vault, and Courtney Pocket, silver on vault won medals.

In the level 4 11+ Group, Megan Corrick won silver on vault and gold on floor. Katie Pinnell also won gold on floor and Abbie Godsall won a gold medal for her vault.

Six girls, Liberty Jones, Sydney Green, Leoni Gallagher, Lucy Marriot, Jasmine Parry, and Ella Rocca, passed their level five at the North Solihull Sports Centre in the age 9-10 group, while in the 11-12 age group Milly Rocca, Emily Godsall and Cerys Johnson were successful.

At the Regional Teams competition at Lilleshall, the 11+ girls gained silver medals for their performances overall and the Level 5 Team came fifth overall for the West Midlands Region.

On the same day, at Fenton Manor Sports Centre in Stoke on Trent, the team of Paige Wood, Libby Price, Niamh Lyth, Emily Cox, Martha Eldridge, and Gabriella Mitchell came third out of 20 teams in the West Midlands floor and vault competition.

Finally, nine-year-old Liberty Jones, as county champion, was selected to join the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Team to compete against teams from Birmingham Metropolitan, Warwickshire and Staffordshire and collected a gold medal.

"We are so proud of all the girls," said spokesman Coleen Jones. £These achievements prove how committed the gymnasts are to their sport, and how dedicated their coaches are to inspire this hard work."
