STALWART supporter Martin Watson says the passion of former defender Gareth Davies would ignite Hereford United’s beleaguered fans.

Watson, who is the vice-chairman of Hereford United Supporters’ Trust, has mooted Davies as a possible successor to Martin Foyle.

Manager Foyle and assistant Andy Porter left cash-strapped United this afternoon after a run of poor results.

Watson said: “With the club’s finances so poor, the next manager is more than likely going to be someone already at the club and Pete Beadle has done a good job with the youth team.

“People have also suggested Colin Addison doing the job but age might be against him. Gareth Davies has also been mentioned.  Gareth is passionate about Hereford United and we need passion. The fans would certainly get behind the likes of Colin and Gareth and back them.

“The two already with coaching responsibilities at the club are Luke Graham or Rob Purdie and they would do a good job.”

Watson said he felt Foyle’s departure from United was ‘inevitable’.

“I think it was inevitable it was going to happen sooner or later,” said Watson.

“Martin Foyle was getting frustrated by the situation, he could not bring in new players, and he was getting a lot of stick. His post-match comments were getting harder to swallow.”

The next 10 days or so could be 'quite major' in terms of United’s future, says Watson.

The Hereford United Supporters’ Trust (HUST) are organising a fans’ open meeting with HUISA in the Starlite Rooms on Monday at 7pm.

“We have to be one group and be pulling in one direction as we move forward,” added Watson.
