Wolverhampton United 0 Bartestree 1

BARTESTREE retained their hopes of runners-up spot in Division One of the West Midlands League with a hard-fought win at the league's basement club.

With just two games remaining of their season, the villagers are seven points clear of third-placed Haughmond, who have five games in hand.

The two sides meet in Bartestree's final game of the season.

Bartestree took an early lead in Wolverhampton when Tom Harding cross for Kiea Cowley to produce a fine finish.

Excellent saves by the home keeper denied Darren Andrews and Harding before the break.

And it was a similar story in the second period when more good saves and missed chances prevented Bartestree from extending their lead.

"It was a good three points away from home," said Bartestree boss Dave Cadwallader.

"Credit to Wolverhampton who never gave up and their keeper was fantastic."

On Saturday, Bartestree face Stone Old Alleynians who, last weekend, inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Ledbury Town to extend the New Street side's winless league run to seven games.

Stone scored within two minutes of the start of each half before a poor back-pass from Craig Kitchener set up the third 20 minutes from time.

Lads Club were also beaten when they went down 3-1 at home to Penncroft.

Leominster Town will face Westfields Reserves in the final of the Herefordshire Football League Journal Trophy after a 3-1 win over Hinton in the semi-final at Briarwood.

Leominster scored through Tommy Murphy, Michael O'Brien and Sam Preece with Hinton replying through Luke Semple.
