GARNONS have won a new set of covers in an ECB national competition.

And after the wettest winter on record, the GB Liners Marches League champions could hardly have picked a better time for their success.

There was, however, a tinge of irony about the success as club chairman Phil Brace had just ordered similar covers from the suppliers Stuart Canvas Products.

"Our existing covers were in desperate need of updating and improving but we were shocked and pleased to see that the club had won," said Brace. "When you enter a national competition you tend to think your efforts will be in vain but ,as they say, you’ve got to be in it to win it.”

Garnons are aiming to make a number of improvements to their ground at the Lawns, said Brace who has succeeded Steve Newton as club chairman.

currently making a number of improvements to their already fantastic Ground at the lawns.

"Steve is a tough act to follow but we have set about some improvements to our facilities at Garnons and have seen some encouraging signs on the playing front," said Brace.

"We have secured sponsorship again from South Hereford Volkswagen, Humfrys and Symonds Solicitors, HGTA and Advantage Business Supplies Ltd.

“And I’m hoping that winning the covers was a sign of many more wins to come.”

Garnon’s are now holding nets at Hereford Cathedral School Sports Hall on Sunday evenings at 7pm and new cricketers would be most welcome.
