THREE goals in the last two minutes sealed a remarkable comeback and a place in the final for Westfields Reserves.

With the scores level at 2-2, Jamie Edwards unleashed a 25-yard drive into the bottom corner to give the home side the lead and then a Mark Davis brace put a gloss on the scoreline.

However, the game didn’t start as well as it ended for Westfields as it was Ross who took the lead with an excellent 25-yard first-time lob from Damon Beaumont that crept just inside the post.

The goal had come against the run of play but it only took the visitors two minutes to increase their lead as a long goal-kick bounced over the defence into the path of the on-running Beaumont, who calmly poked the ball into the back of the net.

Westfields were quick to respond as man-of-the-match Tom Bendall headed home from brother Adam’s pinpoint corner just five minutes later.

Neither side managed to take control of the game up to the half-time whistle but whatever was said in the Westfields changing room at the break certainly made the difference as the home team came out and dominated the second half from start to finish.

It took just eight minutes for them to draw the scores level as Tom Bendall again found the back of the net, if a little fortunately this time, as his low drive found its way underneath the body of the diving Carl Roberts in the Ross goal.

From then on, Westfields peppered the Ross box but, time and time again, failed to take the lead as they were repelled by a mixture of strong defending and wayward shooting.

However, with time running out, Edwards picked the ball up some 40 yards from goal before beating three players and unleashing an unstoppable drive into the bottom corner.

With Ross pressing for an equaliser it wasn’t a surprise that they were left open on the break and Mark Davis found himself the beneficiary of this on two occasions; the first a fine header and the second a tap-in from a free-kick rebounding off the post, ensuring his side will meet Leominster Town in the final.
