ORGANISERS Vince McNally and Richard Roberts run the Hinton Police Boxing Project based at Hinton Community Centre in Hereford.

The friends are accredited level two amateur boxing association coaches and the Hereford club has close links with the local police team.

“PCSO Kevin Powell regularly arranges talks with the younger groups and assists with school groups attending the club during the week and also Herefordshire Housing work club,” said Roberts.

“The club also organises sessions for schools and colleges and teaches boxing skills and bases sessions around valuable lifeskills such as self-control, decision-making and health issues.”

Last Saturday’s show was dedicated to the memory of Hereford boxing supporter and club treasurer Jim Smith, who died in January.

McNally said: “Jim lived for his family, friendship and strong faith and always looked after everyone and he still has a big influence on everyone he met and worked with.

Jim’s grandson, Liam Shaw, stepped into the ring to present England star Luke McCormack with the maiden Jim Smith Memorial Cup.
