Last Saturday’s defeat to rivals Bromyard leaves Greyhound nervously looking over their shoulder as they now sit just four points above the relegation zone with just five games remaining in the season.

“It’s not good really; if other results had gone against us today we could’ve been sat in the bottom two”, explained hooker Rob Gummer, “home form is something that we look too to get us away from trouble and it’s just not been good enough this season and again today we’ve come up just short again which leaves us in a precarious position”.

With Cannock away next Saturday they may find themselves in an even more precarious position but Coach Mark Jones is confident that the players can find some of their recent form again when they take on the divisions second place side.

“Away games are always tough, it’s a long trip to Cannock as well which never helps but we will take a strong side up and if they show the commitment they did today then we should hopefully be able to take something away from the game”.

Facing four of the top five in their remaining games isn’t going to make ensuring safety easy but one game that could provide the Dogs with the win that may ensure safety is the last home game of the season against Five Ways Old Edwardians as Jones explained.

“We’ve got to target Old Edwardians when they come here, they are only a couple of points above us and we beat them at their place at the start of the season, so I’m sure we can get a result in that one especially as the boys will want to put on a strong last home performance of the season”.
