Westfields 2 Walsall Wood 5

WESTFIELDS cast aside a first-half lead as they turned in their worst performance of the season to succumb to a second successive home five-goal mauling.

The city side had been beaten by five goals in their previous match - a home cup tie against Stourport Swifts - and now the lively visitors also hit five in a Midland Alliance clash.

Westfields only had themselves to blame after failing to capitalise on a lively start.

In the first minute, Aidan Thomas got free on the left and laid on a simple chance which Jamie Cuss fired wide from just three yards.

On the quarter-hour, however, Thomas showed how to finish when he raced on to a fine pass from Scott Jackson to beat the advancing goalkeeper from 12 yards.

Anthony Juxon, however, equalised with a header almost immediately, but Fields wasted no time in getting back in front.

Craig Jones delivered a corner which Jackson swept home with a fine finish.

After that, however, things only got worse for the home side.

Joey Butlin sent the sides in at half-time on level terms and then scored again to put Wood in front just after the interval.

Jamie Hawkins made it 4-2 as the pacy visitors attack caught out the Westfields defence and the home side's wretched afternoon was complete when Drew Aiton grabbed a fifth in the closing stages.
