The Big Match: Bromyard come out on top in local derby at Greyhound
Greyhound 6 pts Bromyard 12 TRIES from Scott Holloway and George Leighton ensure that Bromyard came out on top on in this scrappy derby encounter.
The tries came one in each half and were enough to ensure that the visiting side avoided a double defeat and gave coach Patrick Hill a happy return to his old stamping ground.
The game started well enough for Greyhound as Matt Swain slotted over a penalty just eight minutes in following some good dominance from the forwards.
It didn’t take long however for Bromyard to get on the board as the forwards drove over the try line, following a line out, with Holloway the player getting the ball down.
Toby Rivers narrowly missed the conversion to leave the scoreline at 3-5 until the half time whistle.
Greyhound started the half strongly and it was another Swain penalty that gave the hosts a 6-5 lead.
Then followed a scrappy period of the game in which both sides went down to 14 men. Neither side was able to get a hold of the game, with a number of handling errors when getting into promising positions in the opposing final thirds.
However, it was George Leighton, just two minutes after returning from the sin bin, who found his way over the try line following a good flowing move which left Bromyard with an overlap in the far corner for Leighton to fully capitalise on.
Rivers added the conversion this time and despite a last big effort from Greyhound, the Bromyard defence held strong to leave them comfortably sitting in mid table.
The hosts are left still nervously looking over their shoulder just above the relegation zone.
