CHAIRMAN David Keyte does not want Hereford United’s players or management to give their personal views to the local media about the club's financial plight.

Comments made to the local media by United’s players should be ‘restricted to football’ due to ‘commercial confidentiality that all businesses need’, says Keyte.

Skipper Luke Graham told the Hereford Times earlier this month that the players had been paid just 50% of their wages for January and feared the club could be facing another winding up order.

Manager Martin Foyle has publicly expressed his difficulties in not being able to bring in new players because of the club’s widely-publicised cash-flow problems.

And, earlier this month, United issued a statement saying the youth set-up could be disbanded at the end of the season unless the club secured significant investment.

Keyte, non-executive director Colin Addison, the players and management held a meeting yesterday.

Keyte has confirmed to the players that their contracts will be honoured in full, while the players have stressed their commitment for the remainder of the season.

The statement in full: "The players and management met with the club chairman and non-executive director Colin Addison on Thursday at the request of the chairman. This is a brief summary of the discussions.

"The chairman expressed his concerns about the personal views being expressed to the local press and media that risk the commercial confidentiality that all businesses need and asked that comments be restricted to football.

"A full and open discussion gave the players information about the club’s financial situation and also the opportunity to raise their own concerns.

"The chairman made a clear statement that contracts would be met in full.

"Weather permitting the club has three home matches in March which, depending on attendances, should ease the situation a little.

"The players expressed a wish that the fans be made aware of the financial difficulties the club is facing which the chairman believed were fairly common knowledge locally but, importantly, the players also wanted to state their full commitment to remaining professional and getting the job done."

Chairman Keyte told the club website “Nobody is happy about the current financial situation and it certainly is not an easy message to deliver or receive when talking about personal finance. Neither the current players nor management were responsible for the club’s relegation in 2012, so it was encouraging to hear the players and management reiterate their commitment to the remaining battle ahead of us all this season.

“We shouldn’t forget that last month the players performed at a level that won the Manager the monthly award and are more than capable of doing that again. Colin (Addison) expressed his personal view that this group of players will see us through and I personally certainly agree with that.”

Keyte added: “We all need to stick together and pull in the same direction for the football club, and we want the supporters to get behind the players, as they were last month, to help them through the coming weeks.”

“We have a great fixture to get stuck in to on Saturday with Wrexham coming to Edgar Street and an early chance to start picking up some points again. It was certainly good to talk things through. We should do more of it.”
