IT'S fair to say we're experiencing some tough times at Edgar Street lately, both on and off the pitch.

Last Saturday's 2-0 defeat against Dartford followed a 7-0 drubbing at Luton and a 3-0 loss on the road at Woking. All that after Martin Foyle was named manager of the month. Talk about the curse of the Manager of the Month award!

Here's a few of my favourite memories, some of which show it's not always about supporting a winning side that makes it special.

1 – My first away game

It ended in defeat, but perhaps that's helped me keep a sensible amount of optimism as a Hereford fan.

As part of the Junior Bulls we traveled to Barnet in 1992, via a stop-off at Wembley for a tour of the famous stadium. Seeing the changing rooms, walk down the tunnel and to even lift a replica of the FA Cup in the royal box was a great memory. As was surprisingly the game which I remember as if it was yesterday.

Greg Downs was manager and I remember the traveling Hereford fans sing for what seemed like the whole game. It was a fantastic day out that helped make sure I would be a life-long Bulls fan.

2 – We Only Need Nine Men

A trip to Fulham is one I'll never forget, not least for referee Andy D'Urso who gave two Bulls players their marching orders. Keith Downing and Steve Blatherwick both dismissed for misdemeanours. The Bulls held out for a 0-0 draw, and celebrations all the way home from the traveling Bulls fans.

That wasn't the only thing that makes the game stick out in my mind. It was another Junior Bulls trip and this one would see us get the chance to take 'american style' penalties on the pitch at half time. I can still lay claim to scoring a goal at Craven Cottage!

3 – Beating Leeds on their own turf!

Many thought that after holding Leeds to a goalless draw at Edgar Street in the FA Cup in 2007, the replay would be a stroll in the park for the former European Cup finalists. Someone had forgotten to tell Lionel Ainsworth and the rest of the Hereford team, with his 3rd minute strike dumping Leeds out of the Cup.

4 – Clinching promotion to League 1 at Brentford

A superb day to cap a superb season. The sun was shining, the away end at Brentford was full to overflowing with yellow-clad Bulls fans, and the Bulls team were once again in fine form winning 3-0.

5 – Second visit to The Walkers

The Bulls have played at Leicester City's Walkers Stadium twice. Once for the Conference Play Off final win over Halifax, and then again for United's League 1 encounter against Leicester themselves.

This time I wasn't celebrating in the away end, but reporting for the official Hereford United website. It was a fantastic experience to see behind the scenes, in the changing rooms, the media room and the view from the press box.

Unfortunately we lost the game and the lift from the press box got it right. “Going down” it told me as I got in.

The reason I support Hereford United isn't because we win every game, and not because we have the best players or biggest bank balance, it's because Hereford United is 'my club'.

As they say, you don't choose to support a football club, the football club chooses you. It would be great if a few more Premier-team supporters who live in and around the county would make a visit to Edgar Street once in a while.
