WITH the season drawing to an end and safety all but assured Luctonians' director of rugby Alex Davidson looks set to try a few new things out in the remaining matches.

“After today’s win I think we are one more win away from stopping us looking over our shoulders so we should be able to cut the shackles off and try and play a slightly more expansive game and see where we are for the start of next season”.

As well as trialling a new style of play, Davidson is also keen to try out some of the second-teamers who are on the fringe of the first-team as well as some of the new signings that have come into the club in recent weeks.

“We train as a joint squad so there are a few certain individuals that we do have our eyes on and have done for a while now," he said.

"Also we have signed a couple of new players this week; there are two Romanian lads, a number eight and a centre, we’ve also got Ben Williams, a Hereford boy, returning who went off to Worcester Academy, is back with us now and another David Forster, another centre, so there’s another four there to mix in with the second team that we are looking at.”

After a season marred by injuries to the squad, flanker Brad Talbot is hopeful that the extra additions will help the squad push on for a higher finish next season.

“It definitely helps over the course of a season to have a bigger squad especially with the injuries we’ve had this year," he said.

"We’ve got a strong group of 20 or so players but having high quality replacements that can fit in without affecting the strength of the team will be key in achieving a top-five finish next year.”
