Having been elevated to RFU Accredited Club status, one of just three clubs to do so in Herefordshire, just before Christmas both staff and players are looking forward to an exciting future for the City Sports Club.

“This is a result of a lot of hard work by the club. It is recognition of what we are trying to achieve at Greyhound”, explained Chairman Barry Morris. “We have set ourselves a plan for club development, and this award ensures we work towards our goals. We now join Ross and Ledbury as the elite group of accredited clubs of in Herefordshire”.

One of the goals that the club is looking at since gaining the accreditation is getting a second team running again, with a view to using it as a development side for the first team as President Paul Marshall explained.

“We are trying to get the second team together again; we managed to field a second team a few times last season but due to injuries and work commitments we were unable to commit fully to it. But now with having gained accreditation we are looking to push that forward and motivate us going into the seasons ahead”.

Marshall isn’t the only one that thinks a second team would benefit the club, manager Mark Jones also shares these views and believes that a second team would create more hunger and determination in the players to fight for their places.

“Of course having a second team would be great for us, at the minute there is a good group of players that are in the squad but when you get a few injuries, a few with work commitments then you start to look a bit fragile. With a second team you would be able to give those injured players some game time to get match fit again whilst developing some of our young talent who will hopefully be playing in the first team in the future”.
