Highgate United 2 Westfields 0

WESTFIELDS suffered a double disappointment in their build-up to their big FA Vase fourth-round tie at Morpeth on Saturday.

The city side suffered a defeat by the Midland Alliance leaders and also lost defender Bobby Aldrich with a broken right-leg five minutes from time.

Jamie Cuss missed a good chance to open the scoring after 20 minutes and then a Jamie Insall shot was well saved.

But it was an Insall pass which was intercepted for Highgate to break away for Shane Benjamin to head in at the far post.

As the game moved into the second period, Insall missed a great opportunity to level the scores when he raced clear only to shoot weakly.

Fields remained in the game with Aldrich and Phil Glover working hard at the back to contain the home side.

Cuss and Brad Birch had further chances to level the scores before Benjamin leapt high to head his second of the game on 72 minutes after Craig Jones conceded a free-kick 35 yards out.

Westfields used their three substitutes in an attempt to claw back but their chances effectively disappeared with the injury to Aldrich which saw him taken to QE Hospital in Birmingham.
