With victory against Wednesfield last Saturday, Pegasus Juniors extended their winning streak to nine and sees them sitting sixth in the West Midlands Premier League, with games in hand over the teams above them, they may be forgiven for getting ahead of themselves when looking at the remainder of the season but that is something that manager Chris Hyde is keen not to do.

“At the start of the season you do have your hopes and ambitions. We sat down and took a look at the group of lads that we have and we did think that we could be up there in the mix at the end of the season. I’ve never set targets; you just hope to be there and thereabouts come the end of the season. If you try and win every game, take every game as it comes and do your best by focusing on that game and not what everyone else is doing or who you’ve got the game after then that, for me, will always enable the team to fulfill the potential that I know they’ve got and that they know they’ve got”.

Hyde’s views and beliefs on focusing on playing game by game are clearly rubbing off on his players as midfielder Anthony Robbins explained.

“The lads don’t mention it in the changing room; we just take every game as it comes. If we get to far ahead of ourselves that’s when you come unstuck so literally every game we take one step at time, now we’ve won this one we can start thinking about the next game and look to make it ten in a row there”.

One of the positives for the team this season is the strength in depth of the squad as Captain Paul Allam explained.

“I don’t think the lads know just how good they can be at times. I mean we try to play a certain way and everyone in the squad is able to adapt to any situation we find ourselves in. I’m hugely confident in the ability and work rate of the lads to perform week in week despite who’s playing. It’s not just a strong starting 11 that we have here it’s a strong squad which is vital when you are looking to be competitive throughout the season especially with the injuries and suspensions that you do pick up”.

With a few players out with injuries and suspensions for last Saturday’s game it was clear that the squad do have the strength that is needed to compete for the rest of the season and it was one of the players drafted in, Richard Harrison, that provided a match winning performance with two of the goals in a 3-1 over Wednesfield.

All the goals came in the first half with the first coming as Ben Price equalised for Pegasus in the 17th minute. Harrison then slotted home the second just a minute later, following a great through ball from Price.

Harrison’s second came on the stroke of half time after he had brilliantly controlled a long ball over the top before slotting past the despairing goalkeeper.

Pegasus were untroubled in the second half and if it wasn’t for some excellent saves by the visitors keeper the scoreline could have been alot more as they went on to collect yet another three points.
