Ledbury Town 4 Lads Club 1

LEDBURY Town's twin strike-force of Jamie Welch and Dan Herbert proved the difference in the sides as the New Street outfit eased into the second round of the West Midlands League Division One Cup at the expense of their county rivals.

Welch scored a hat-trick with Herbert bagging the other as Ledbury made the best of their opportunities.

"I think the scoreline flattered Ledbury although they took their chances well," said Lads Club coach Richie Jones.

"They play a certain way and it suits them - they have two prolific strikers who would score goals for anyone at this level.

"Although we had most of the possession we did not hurt Ledbury enough they defended deep and gave us no space to pass through them.

"Then when we gave the ball away, they got the ball forward early and finished their goals brilliantly, when we did get chances we did not work the goalkeeper enough."

Town took the lead on six minutes when Herbert headed across goal for Welch to nod home.

Shortly afterwards, Lads Club keeper Steve Bell saved brilliantly from Herbert but Welch prodded home the loose ball.

Bell was cautioned for handling outside the area just before the interval and the keeper had no chance on the hour when Herbert rifled home.

Welch completed his hart-trick on 69 minutes with Danny Hill's sublime 25-yard chip providing some consolation six minutes from the end.
