Hereford Tae Kwon Do Club have returned with a clutch of five medals from the British Championships at the University of Wales Cardiff.

Hereford's club instructor, Dave Sheppard, whose day was completed with the award of his seventh Dan black belt after 32 years of dedication to the sport, was delighted by the club's results.

"With more than 1500 competitors from the four corners of the country and a few European countries invited we were expecting a tough day of competition with a high standard of competitor and we were not wrong," he said.

"The standard each year is getting higher and higher and this year was no exception, so to win your division or even medal would call for a great deal of skill and hard work."

Sheppard was one of the medal winners, returning to Hereford with a silver from the men's black belt pattern competition while Katie Lloyd also won silver in the girls' red belt heavyweights.

But three Hereford competitors won gold medals.

Suzette Botha won gold in the ladies' red belt lightweights, Peter Handley won gold in the men’s green belt heavyweights and Mandy Meredith won gold in the ladies' green belt lightweights.

Hereford Tae Kwon Do club hold their classes at Hereford Leisure Centre on Sunday and Wednesday evenings at 6pm. For more information, contact Dave Sheppard on 07966 429392.
