WESTFIELDS' festive programme begin in disappointing fashion when their nine-game unbeaten run came crashing to a halt.

And they lost defender Dene Whittal-Williams to a first-half sending-off.

Title-chasers Quorn boosted their Midland Alliance title hopes by cashing in on their numerical superiority and completing a double over the city side

Fields keeper Matt Gwynne saved well from Don Brennan early on but the visitors missed a great chance to go ahead when Aidan Thomas missed a cross from Carl Morgan and Whittal-Williams missed a simple tap-in at the far post.

The centre-back took out his frustration on a Quorn defender, right in front of the referee, and he was shown a red card.

Gwynne saved well twice more before Brennan took advantage of an Alex O'Leary error by giving Quorn an interval lead.

The home side took full advantage of their extra man in the second half.

Brennan tucked away a right-wing cross to double the lead.

And full-back Blaize Kerr raced forward in the next home attack to fire a 20-yarder past Gwynne.

Jamie Insall missed a chance to reduce arrears but, with Jamie Dodds dominating the midfield, the former Coalville player set up Liam Reed for a fourth goal.

In the closing stages, only a couple of fine saves by Gwynne prevented a rout.
