Westfields 1 Boldmere St Michaels 1

WESTFIELDS extended their unbeaten run to nine league and cup matches with a draw against the Midland Alliance's third-placed club.

Carl Morgan and Jamie Insall had good efforts saved by Boldmere keeper James Beeson as Fields made a lively start.

But Matt Gwynne in the home goal also had an anxious moment when a Simeon Maye drive flashed just outside an upright.

After the break, Westfields had strong appeals for a penalty waved away after Insall appeared to be brought down.

But their pressure was rewarded on 65 minutes when Carl Morgan and Zac Sirrell did well to set up a shooting chance for Craig Jones who drilled home an unstoppable shot from 20 yards.

It was only powerful defending from the strong Boldmere back line which prevented Westfields from extending their lead.

But, 11 minutes from time, a Herefordshire old-boy popped up with an equaliser.

Phil Glover brought down Maye on the edge of the area and former Wellington midfielder Will Perkins curled the free-kick around the wall and into the net.

Fields boss Sean Edwards sent on substitutes Michael Opoku and Aidan Thomas in a bid to grab a winner but the Boldmere defence held on.
