Hereford Rowing Club’sJim Williams has made a little piece of history by becoming only the second club member to be re-elected captain for a third consecutive year.

The only other HRC member to achieve this honour was Norman Mathews back in 1968.

Jim follows in the footstpes of his father Mick Williams, who served as both captain and president in previous years.

Mathews added to his string of prestigious achievements at the club's annual meeting by being made an honorary life member of the club in recognition of his long service and sterling work given to the club over many years.

He served as captain in 1967/68/ 69 and then again in 1972/73 and has also held the role of club president along with various other official roles.

Hereford Rowing Club also elected Bill Adamson, Steve Kent and Honor Pressey as three new vice-presidents at the annual meeting.

This is an honorary post given to individual members who have given long and valuable service to the club, and /or in recognition of tracing achievements such as national representation or other high level racing honours.

Adamson joined the club in the mid 1980s and has served on the main and regatta committees many times as well as being actively involved in fund raising.

He has quietly assumed a number of vital roles including, on several occasions, taking on the secretary's job in times of need.

Kent also joined the club in the 1980s and, despite never actually being a rower, has served as treasurer since that time in a volunteer capacity.

To the best knowledge of the club, he is the longest serving official on the club committee.

Honor Pressey is the widow of the late Harry Pressey who apart from being an ex-captain was one of the founders of the River Wye Guild which raised thousands of pounds for the Rowing Club, enabling them to build the present club house.

Harry died in the 80s and Honor has retained her membership of the club and continued in many roles supporting the club since.
