5:00pm Wednesday 30th October 2013 in Sport
Bartestree 3 Haughmond 2.
BARTESTREE manager Dave Cadwallader was thrilled with his side’s performance after a fight-back from two goals behind brought three points.
Second-placed Haughmond were two-up at the interval but third-placed Bartestree hit back to close the gap at the top of the table.
“What a second-half performance,” he said. “The lads listened to everything we told them at half-time and it worked superbly.
“The desire, passion and belief was excellent.”
Haughmond took the lead with a superb shot from 25 yards.
And the former Hereford United triallist and Woofferton striker Nathan Hodge doubled the lead with a cool finish before the break.
Bartestree made a couple of changes at the interval and came out revitalised. Tom Parry gained possession on the edge of the box and turned to shoot into the bottom corner.
Parry, struck again, rounding the keeper to roll the ball home and level the scores.
Substitute Matthew Reeve played a key role in the winning goal, running at the visiting defence before picking out Kiea Cowley who slammed home at the far post. l LEOMINSTER player-boss Sam Bowen was in action at a more usual end of the pitch in a 6-0 win over visiting Pegasus Reserves.
After being pressed into service as an emergency goalkeeper the previous week, striker Bowen banged in a hat-trick as Town won for the sixth time in six outings to strengthen their hold on second place in the Herefordshire League Premier Division.
Mark Lamonby also scored twice with Joe Murphy bagging the other.
With leaders Westfields Reserves and reigning champions Wellington Reserves among those sidelined by the bad weather, Shobdon took advantage to move up to fifth in the table with a 4-2 win over Ross Juniors.
The north Herefordshire newcomers scored through Aaron Bowden (2), Jack Brazier and Dan Stack with Harry Hall and Jimmy Moreton on target for Ross.
Lads Club Reserves are through to the second round of the Herefordshire League Senior Cup after a 5-2 win over Kington Town, who scored through Jack Carpenter and Ryan Newton.
Gornal Athletic Res 3 Lads Club 1.
LAST season’s West Midlands League Division Two champions proved too strong for Lads Club on a saturated pitch. The city side, who were promoted alongside their opponents, made a promising start but were unable to convert possession into scoring opportunities.
But then, against the run of play, the home side took the lead when the unmarked Adam Hill volleyed home a Jamie Fox cross at the far post.
Gornal increased their lead before the interval when Rob Kelly slid home the rebound after Steve Bell had saved superbly from Hill.
Jordan Burke’s header was ruled out for offside and Matt Evans saw an effort cleared off the line before Josh Pugh curled in a free-kick to reduce arrears.
But then a mix-up between Pugh and Kevin Gwilliam allowed man-of-the-match Todd Warner to round off the victory with a superb 25-yarder.
