Scott Turner on target as Bartestree beat Hereford Lads Club in West Midlands League Division One
3:00pm Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in Sport
Lads Club 0 Bartestree 1.
SCOTT Turner’s goal enabled Bartestree to gain revenge for an early-season West Midlands League Division One defeat and hold on to third place in the table.
But Lads Club also had plenty of chances to take something from a game which saw both teams finish with 10 men.
Lads Club’s Tom Harding shot against the bar after nine minutes but, from the rebound, Bartestree broke down-field to force a corner. Kiea Cowley’s well-placed flag-kick picked out Turner who headed home superbly at the near post.
John Hopkins saved well from Steve Dixon as Lads Club tried to hit back.
But, just before the interval, Matt Maturi reacted to a challenge from Darren Andrews and both players were sent off.
Lads Club had the better of the opportunities in the second-half with a Jordan Burke effort coming back off the bar and Danny Moon inadvertently blocking a Matt Evans header on the Bartestree goal-line. Moon had the game’s final chance which he blasted past an upright. “When we got possession, we worked hard to keep the ball,” said Bartestree boss Dave Cadwallader.
“We are gaining more and more confidence, week after week and starting to believe we are in the mix for promotion.”
“We are happy that we restricted Bartestree to one chance, even though it was the winning goal, but you can’t go to sleep at this level because you will get punished,” said Lads Club’s assistant manager Richie Jones. “We thought we deserved to pick up the points, but our finishing let us down.”
