FLY-HALF George Bennion kicked four penalties and a conversion but Ledbury slipped to their first loss in Midlands Three West (South).
Winger Nick Frith scored a fine try for Ledbury, who put up a brave fight against table-topping Cheltenham North.
The match ended with fourth-placed Ledbury in control and the Cheltenham scrum under intense pressure.
The display should give Ledbury confidence ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Edwardians in the Midlands Senior Vase second round.
Cheltenham took control with two early tries before Bennion reduced the deficit with a penalty and then Frith touched down, with Bennion converting.
Another Bennion penalty put Ledbury ahead before a converted try by the home team restored their lead. With flanker Elliot Bee injured, the leaders scored a try in the last move of the firsthalf to open up a 22-13 advantage.
Bennion’s third penalty brought the visitors to within six points. He slotted another with five minutes left but Ledbury ran out of time.
Meanwhile, Bromyard travel to Birmingham Civil Service this Saturday in the second round of the Midlands Junior Vase.
Bromyard are sixth in Midlands Four West (North) after recording a 20-7 home win against Cannock.
